Our Roots

Adisaivas are a Shaiva Brahmin community whose families have, for generations, been devoted to the worship of Lord Shiva. Traditionally, Adisaiva families served as priests (archakas) in Shiva temples and conducted worship according to the Shaiva Agamas.

Our community honours its acharyas and spiritual teachers, among them Sri Kantha Sivacharya and Sri Bodhananda Maharshi, whose images grace our Sangham gatherings.

Living traditions

  • Rudrabhishekam – the sacred bathing of the Shiva Linga with the chanting of Sri Rudram, performed at every major Sangham gathering.
  • Karthika month observances – Damodara Puja, lamps and the Karthika Vana Samaradhana, worship and a shared meal amid nature.
  • Homams and pujas – performed together for the wellbeing of all members and to sanctify new beginnings, such as the celebrations at our Sangha Bhavan.
  • Family and community – keeping our families connected across generations, including through the Vivaha Parichaya Vedika.

Members who can contribute verified information on our history, gotras and pravaras are welcome to share it with the committee so that it can be added here.
